Various alpine avalanche paths in the alpine region have a deeply buried weak layer and may be hanging in the balance.  A single rider may trigger large, destructive avalanches.  When selecting your route in the backcountry, remain conservative.  Slopes which have previously avalanched are a better choice to begin your selection process.  North alpine aspects may also have soft slab avalanche risk near ridgetops created by southerly winds.

Increasing chances of naturally occuring avalanches (ending Monday morning).  The snowpack on the ground will be asked to support significant new snow load.  Due to weakness at the base of this existing snowpack, in many places in the the alpine region, the old snowpack will collapse under this load.  The result will be large, destructive avalanches.

Recent storm snow has gained some strength.  However, the alpine region (above 3000m) remains moderate risk.  North to East ridgetop aspects pose a wind slab avalanche problem and triggered avalanches may be large/destructive.  Afternoon sudden rise in temperature may weaken storm snow on all steep aspects and inrease the likelihood of a single rider triggering an avalanche.

An enormous amount of weight in new snow is stressing the old previous snowpack.  Winds from the Southerly direction may transport this new snow increasing the weight (and risk of avalanches) on North facing alpine aspects by factors.  Winds have remained relatively light.  The risk of natural and human triggered avalanches in the alpine region today remains HIGH.  At lower elevations the avalanche problem is new storm snow easily triggering loose snow avalanches on all aspects with steep, open slopes.
